Microsoft has introduced an innovative feature in its Edge browser, dubbed Smart Assist Mode, transforming the way users interact with the web. This cutting-edge tool leverages artificial intelligence to streamline and enrich the browsing experience, making it more intuitive and task-focused.
When activated, Smart Assist Mode redefines the Edge interface by presenting a unified input bar on new tabs. This versatile bar integrates search, navigation, and conversational capabilities into a single hub. With user consent, the AI can analyze content across multiple open tabs, offering tailored support for activities like research, online shopping, or trip planning. It can condense information, propose actionable steps, and even handle simple tasks, such as reserving a spot.
Voice interaction is a key highlight, allowing users to issue natural voice commands to trigger actions like comparing websites or retrieving specific content.

Privacy remains a priority, with Microsoft ensuring that Smart Assist Mode adheres to strict data-handling protocols, only accessing information with explicit user approval. Clear visual cues indicate when the feature is active, and it can be easily disabled via Edge’s settings.
This feature is currently available at no cost as an opt-in for Edge users on Windows and Mac in regions where the assistant is supported.
